Jade Jewelry
Jade jewelry is created from an ornamental stone which
is generally greenish. In all actuality, the term is applied to two
different stone types. Both of these rocks are metamorphic. However,
each are made from different silicate minerals.
The first type of rock used to create jade jewelry is known as nephrite.
Most commonly, this jade is either gray or green. Occasionally it may
come in yellow, brown, or white varieties.
Jade jewelry created from jadeite may also come in black, violent,
pink, and red colors. Jadeite is much rarer than nephrite. The color
is largely affected by the inclusion of such elements as chromium and
iron.
Both jadeite and nephrite range in opacities and both are commonly
mottled.
